Tonight's video comes from Rick Springfield circa 1981. It's his big hit "Jessie's Girl". This song brings back memories for me for two reasons. First, my mom was a HUGE General Hospital fan. She watched it religiously. Every day at 3:00 she'd turn on the tube and watch her soap. She especially loved Dr. Noah Drake played by, you guessed it, Rick Springfield. So whenever I hear this song, I think of my mom getting wrapped up in the plotlines surrounding Port Charles* and the characters at General Hospital.
This song also reminds me of my sister. During this time, she was in love and all sorts of obsessed with Rick Springfield. I find this a little odd since she was 6 years old at the time, but whatever. I had posters of sexy hunks like Chad Allen, Danny Pintauro, Ricky Schroder, and Fred Savage, which is kind of funny to me since now, as adult men, two are out and proud, one asked to be known by his "adult" name, and the last one still looks like he did in '84. Anyhoo, my sister had a poster of Rick on her wall by her bed. One day, my ultra cool 8 year old self thought it would be a good idea to deface her favorite poster. I had a friend over and I wanted to prove how totally cool I was, so I helped this "friend" write all over my sister's favorite poster. We totally ruined it. My sister cried for weeks. I felt bad, but of course, never let on. I couldn't let the cool kids see that I had any sort of remorse for my actions! It was a pretty mean thing to do, and I wish I hadn't done it, but the past is the past. But, of course, my sister (now 29), never lets me forget it. Especially when she hears this song or sees the video.

*Port Charles is a fictional town in Upstate NY. I always thought it was bizarre how it's called "Port" Charles when all of Upstate NY is landlocked.

Ah, the memories. I was a junior in high school, 16 years old, and had just gotten my driver's license. I remember driving around at night by myself (a very new and amazing feeling of independence) and listening to the radio and I remember this song as one of those in heavy rotation on the top 40 radio station that I listened to at the time.
