with only 17 days left till the end of the year, and the inevitable demise of the brattle, i can't help but wonder why there aren't any philanthropists in this city who can save the theater? boston and cambridge aren't exactly poor places, so why hasn't anyone stepped up to the plate to help? i know there are people out there who could pool the money that they don't need (read: those who are in the highest tax bracket) in order to save something so important to this city. $400,000 isn't all that much money for some of the elite who live in both cambridge and boston. i mean, seriously, there are too many who have salaries that are half that. it's kind of sick to think that the average joes like you and me who can't really afford to contribute are the first ones to pitch in.
is the theater just not that important to most people? is perserving art and culture no longer important here?
i just don't get it. it's pretty sad.
