Young, Dumb, and (Sorta) Out Of Control

Today is my 32nd birthday. 32 isn't so bad. Not as bad as 30, that's for sure. It's just another day. I don't feel much older. I don't think I look much older. The only real different thing about the 22 year old me and the 32 year old me is the fact that I don't party like I used to. Ok, and that I don't listen to the same music. Or wear the same kind of clothes (wallet chain, anyone??).

Here's a funny video of me on October 4, 1997. I had a huge party in my apartment and all my very good friends were there. It was one of the most fun nights of my life. Here you see me "dancing" with my best friend Bart. What you don't know is that I'd consumed mass quantities of rum and coke before, during, and after this was taped. This is pretty much the only part of a 4 hour tape that is fit for the internet.

Anyway, enjoy. Bart spins Jeanne. Jeanne Falls Down. Jeanne's friends just stand and stare. Good times for sure!

Notice the Jamiroquai AND Beatles posters on the wall. And that painting? It's a portrait of Bono that I made while in High School. The music in the background is "Halcyon and On and On" by Orbital, which was one of my favorite songs of that year. Others include hits from Underworld, Future Sound of London, Tricky, and The Prodigy. Hmmm...The Prodigy. What ever happened to them, anyway?

So, yeah. There's a glimpse of 22 year old Jeanne. I miss her, but I don't think I'd want to be her again. OK, well, maybe for just one day. :)

On Getting Older

I ususally do a count-down before my birthday. When I was younger, it would start aout 2 months ahead of time. But once I turned 25, I lessened it to a month. After 30 it fell to one week. Now that I'm turning 32 in 12 days, I just don't even want to think about it.

The Big Thing that has got me all nostalgic today is that 16 years ago this weekend was my Sweet 16 birthday party. Holy shit, what a blast. Of course, I was still 15 at the time, but had to have my party that weekend so all my friends (both near and far) could attend.

We also got our very old, very loud, and very scary VCR (that i thought we left behind in Boston) hooked up in the bedroom, so I've been watching old VHS tapes I made over the past 17 years. some make me laugh, most of them make me cringe, and all of them make me wish I were that young again... just for a day. Although I don't know what I was thinking with this outfit:

Did you notice the song playing in the background? Yeah...WTF?

Besides my 16th birthday party, I also have my 22nd birthday party caught on tape. That one is out of control and not fit for broadcasting on the internets. It was the last time that I had a kick-ass birthday party where I was surrounded by a crapload of my closest friends. I miss those days, for sure. I wish I could time travel back to 1997 and tell myself things that I know now. You know, like which men to avoid so they don't ruin 5 years of my life. And I'd like to party with my friends again. That would be awesome.

I also found a tape of my Advanced Speech class where I gave a speech on the recurring themes and characters in Quentin Tarantino films. I was a hard-core Tarantino fan, for sure. That was totally funny to watch. But what was even more funny was the fact that during the four taped speeches, I'm wearing the same outfit, even though they were taped over the course of a semester! HA! I've never been one for fashion, that's for sure.

I don't want to be 32. My life hasn't turned out the way I wanted it to. I'm trying to work on reversing the damage I've done, but I'm not sure if it's possible. And it's true, I dread my birthday now. I hate my 30s. Here's hoping 40s really IS the new 20s.

Another Chosen Photo

Schmap Minneapolis has chosen another one of my photos to add to their travel guide! I'm pretty happy about that. They chose this one, a photo I took last year while Phillip and I were eating there for free for my birthday last year:

Hard Rock Birthday

Speaking of birthday, mine is in 2 weeks. Blah, I'm feeling old.

Best Birthday Party Ever!

Well, I know that I had a good time. People seemed to enjoy themselves, which is always good. I made too much food and I also completely forgot to put out a lot of it. Oh well. We'll eat that for dinner over the next couple of days.

It was great to see all of Phillip's family again. And I got to meet some new cousins and Uncles, which was nice. I just hope that I didn't sound like an ass. I had too much to drink and most of the night is very fuzzy. But I hardly ever drink, and it was a special occasion, so I'm not too worried about it.

I made Phillip's favorites: chocolate black bottom cupcakes with chocolate frosting (see photo) and little pigs-in-a-blanket treats. I think he was the only one who ate them, but that's ok with me. My friend Brandee made an awesome Cheese Log that people raved over. She was all embarassed, which was cute. And there was lots of beer and wine consumed by all, especially me.

Here are two pictures that I love from last night (click to enlarge). The first one is of Phillip blowing out his candles and the second is a picture of me and Brandee taken totally off guard by Phillip. I think the looks on our faces are priceless.

WTF?

Now I must go tend to my hangover. I'm just glad I have the entire day to do absolutley nothing. I'll be better by morning, I'm sure.
