Honey Bunny is Sick
Takin' some time off. Got that nastiness that's going around. I just need a lot of fluids, a lot of sleep, and a moderate amount of Entourage.

Long Time, No Post
Well, 6 days. But that's a long time. At least it seems like a long time.
Speaking of long times, this has been the longest week in recent memory. My schedule at work has changed. Instead of working 8-4:30, I now work 4p-12a. It's totally thrown me off. Sure, it's nice to be able to sleep in til noon if I want, but trying to stay up (and alert and functioning!) until Midnight is sort of a struggle. I'm usually in bed and asleep by 10pm. On top of it all, I'm sick with a sinus infection and chest congestion. So that's why this week seems to be lasting forever. I even work on Saturday!
This will only be for the next two weeks, so that's okay. And I'm praying that my contract will be renewed OR I'll be hired on permanently. Of course, I would rather be hired on, but another month of work is another month of work.

The Griffins Are Sick
The Hubs came down with something a few days ago. Now I've got it. I thought I'd be all super dooper protected from this crap since I got the flu shot, but I guess not. Unless this is the result of the flu shot. Either way, I feel really, really cruddy.
I got up at 6:20 this morning, hoping to make the 7:15 bus. Well, that bus is due to arrive in 12 minutes and I haven't gotten dressed yet. My bed and blankets keep calling my name; I'm so tired. But I can't miss work. I'm sure I'll be fine once I get there. It's not like my job involves physical labor or anything. I can pretty much zone out here and there and I'll be okay.
I have an appointment at 5 tonight, but after that, I'm totally coming home and going straight to bed. I just want to feel normal, instead of this achy, stuffed up, foggy mess.

On Being Sick
I'm still sick, but I HAVE to go to work today. I have to sign my time card, which is the most important thing, but also I have been feeling that guilt I mentioned in my last post. Which is ridiculous. I'm pretty sick. Yesterday morning even The Hubs urged me to stay home...and he NEVER does that. So I stayed home and did a lot of sleeping. I do feel better than yesterday, but not great.
I've been slacking on my 365 days self portrait project, but I blame it on the fact that I can't breathe through my nose to do much of anything without coughing up a lung. I'll get back into it this weekend. I only missed 2 days. I guess that's not so bad.
Old news, but my robot wars video was featured on MNstories.com this week. WOOT! Check it out.
Now I must get ready for work.

Brief Rant On Health/Employment in the US
One thing that really gets me is that we, as hard-working Americans, are made to feel guilty when we are sick. It's really unfortunate that our employers come down on us when we're out sick or not feeling well. How is this productive, exactly? You're already feeling ill and then your boss makes you feel guilty on top of it. How is that helping? How can you get better when you're constantly thinking about work and what will happen when you return? Is that healthy? NO!
I'm speaking from experience* here, and I'm sure that many of you have also had to deal with the same thing. It makes me really mad and sad to think that we live in a country that penalizes us for being human. I'm sick. The last thing I want to think about is if I'm going to 1) be berated for staying home and not infecting the rest of the office or 2) lose my job.
And even though I'm still sick, I will be going to work today.
*my present employer is pretty good about this sort of thing, so i feel lucky...right now.

Thift Store Shopping Is FUN!

I found this in a bin of iPod covers at my local Salvation Army yesterday. I wasn't sure if it was going to fit, since I have a Creative:Zen Vision and not an iPod, but it fits like a glove and looks awesome. And the best part? It was a mere FIFTY CENTS! Brand new and in the package and everything.
One great thing (among a million others) about living in Mpls is that the local thrift stores get a crapload of stuff that Target throws away. So there's a huge box of iPod accessories as well as a million new Mossimo shoes at my SA selling for $3/pair. I'm not a big brand person, but this Mossimo MP3 cover looks a little like a griffin, so that's why I got it.
Today I have to rest and get better. The Griffins are sick. We've both got a end-of-summer cold. It's bad timing since tonight is the QOTSA show at First Ave and tomorrow is the Fair. So we have to get better...fast.

Yesterday Was A Bad Day

Last night I went to gather my clothes off the line in the basement and when I came upstairs I noticed that the back door wasn't shut all the way. I went to push it closed and my hand slipped and went right through it.
All this time I though it was plexi-glass. I guess not.
I cut up my hand and there were chunks of glass in my palm, but I'm ok.
It was a really bad day. Between having a fever and being delirious, to dealing with bouts of sadness and fits of crying, to putting my hand through a plate glass window,I think it's the worst day I've had in a very long time.

Movie-Dominated Weekend, or So It Seems
Saturday morning I woke up feling like ass. Headache, bodyaches, slightly scratchy throat, and an unusual desire to drink lots of water. The headache grew into an almost-migraine and it's stuck around ever since. I don't feel much better today, and that bums me out. I absolutely, positively DO NOT want to miss work tomorrow, so I will have to just keep on "taking it easy" for the rest of the day.
Mrs AND Mr Griffin both had the day off yesterday. Mrs G spent the day moping, doing laundry, sewing, and feeling lousy. Mr G spent the day watching soccer, helping with laundry, and watching me sew. Eventually he went to see some strange foreign film at a theater I've never even heard of. That gave me two hours to myself to take a nap. I wasn't able to fall asleep, which really pissed me off. When he got back, we spent the rest of the day/night watching more movies. We finally saw Jesus Camp and was completely frightened and repulsed, although I was expecting it to be longer and have some sort of conflict to it. I would have liked to see another differing opinion on the Evangelical movement, other than the radio announcer dude. I realize that by the filmmakers not letting the audience know one way or the other what side they are on makes for a perfect documentary, but seriously, I would have loved to see some of those "awful" liberals tell that Becky woman where to stick her Bible.
I watched Kids in the Hall: Same Guys, New Dresses while Phillip watched soccer. It wasn't that great of a documentary, although I was happily transported back to `99 when I saw them on that tour. A college friend bought me tickets to see their 'reunion' tour at the Orpheum in Bboston for my Birthday. Man, that was a good time. The documentary, though, focused on Scott's neurosis and overwhelming desire to be liked by all, which kind of took away from the other guys. There was very little footage of Bruce (who was my favorite Kid) and the stuff with Kevin just makes him look like he has no say in what happens to them -or their show- on a daily basis. But it was nice to re-live most of the skits that I saw live. That's a show I'll never forget.
We also watched Lord of War, which I thought was OK. I expected more from that movie, too. I was also pretty pissed at all the anachronistic and continuity mistakes that were made, and I think Phillip was getting pissed at how often I pointed them out. So I think all those things took away from my enjoyment of the film. I also think I'm the only one I know who feels let down by this. meh.
Today I'm just going to be sewing more and hopefully I'll be able to take a nap. And hopefully that nap won't fuck up my sleep since I have to be up at 5:45 for work tomorrow. Tonight is the premier of The Amazing Race. I'm looking forward to it, but I'm NOT looking forward to seeing Rob and Ambuh. I loathe them. I hope they are the first to go.
