Could This Be LOLA?

Could this be my Lola in a former life? She was, after all, passed between homes before we got her. I will have to examine her arm tonight when I get home to see if she has the same markings.

It looks an awful lot like her. And I'm sure Lola is a Monty Python fan (but she keeps it a secret) just like her Mama.

edit: Nope. Not Lola. Oh well.

Happy Second Birthday, Lola!

Today is Lola's second Birthday as a Griffin! Yay! Since I couldn't keep a party hat on her last year, I decided to make this very silly purple neck thingie. She kept it on the whole time and I was proud of her. Happy Birthday, Miss Lola Kitty!

Bad Day Gone Good

I woke up this morning with another splitting headache. On friday I smacked my head on this low beam in my office and now I have a god sized goose egg as a reminder. It hurts! And it's giving me a headache. It's either the bump on my head or the fact that my house is so dry even Lola has dandruff and sinus problems :(

Anyway, I decided that today would be the day that I clear the clog/slow drain in our tub. I got a bottle of Drain-o and poured it in. I waited the recommended hour before pouring hot water down the drain for 10 minutes. It didn't work. At all. All I was left with is a tub full of dirty Drain-o water.

Yes, now the drain doesn't move the water down at all. I plunged it to no avail. I sat there and cried for 30 minutes, hoping my hot tears would move the clog along. Swearing really loudly didn't help, either. Kicking the tub REALLY didn't help things along. Hey, I've got the PMS. That's how I roll.

And then I had a brainstorm.

I went to the kitchen and rifled through the cupboards. I found what I was looking for (thankfully!). I poured 1c baking soda, 1/2c salt, and 1/2 cup white vinegar into the drain. Or, as close to the drain as I could get, seeing that it was murky and disgusting, and made me pretty nauseous.

The baking soda and vinegar fizzed like the volcano I made in 5th grade science class. I let it fizz and bubble for about 20 minutes. I made sure I took myself out of the bathroom because it was driving me crazy watching the water go nowhere. After about 20 minutes, I went back into the bathroom and, to my surprise, the water was going down.

IT WAS GOING DOWN!

I waited another 30 or so minutes until there was about an inch or two left in the tub, and I repeated the process. 20 minutes later I turned on the faucet and let the hot water run. I figured two things would happen. 1) it would sit there like the last time and I'll have to call the slumlord who won't ever come over to fix it, but will call is "friend" who may or may not come within in the next two weeks to "see what he can do", or, 2) it'll take care of the clog and I'll finally be able to shower.

So I decided to wait and do some vacuuming. 10 minutes into my vacuum session the smoke alarm starts wailing. Lola positively freaks out! I drop the vacuum and run down the hall. All the steam coming from the bathroom had set the alarm off. So I frantically start waving a catalog in front of the smoke alarm until it stops beeping. I bust into the bathroom to find that the drain has been fixed.

I FIXED IT, PEOPLE! NO MORE CLOG!

I'm unsure if it was a combo of the Drain-o and the baking soda/vinegar mix, or just one of the two. But I don't really care. I fixed the clogged drain and I couldn't be happier. I was so happy that I did a little dance right there, with Lola watching me from around the corner.

Now I can shower and shave my legs without having soapy water almost up to my kneecaps. Ahh...the luxury!

In other news, I bought this Ultimate Shine shampoo bar at LUSH at the Mall of America last night and, I have to say, It's worth the $10.08 I paid. If you're not a LUSH lover, you should be. Their stuff is amazing.

Lazy Saturday

I'm hanging out today, not doing much of anything. Just enjoying the last two days I have off before going back to work on Monday. I'm not dreading it at all. In fact, I can't hardly wait. Being out of work for a week sounds like a good time, until you check your bank account and realize you're broke.

So, enjoy this photo of The Princess. I'm going to chill and play some video games.

Today Was A Much Better Day

Thanks to those who commented about my hand going through the window. It is fine; just a bit sore. I think I got all the glass out of it.

Today was a much better day. Work went by relatively quickly. I got a ride home from a new guy who works in my department. He lives (kinda sorta) in my neighborhood and said he could drive me home. He's picking me up tomorrow morning, too, so I don't have to take the bus. That'll save me $4 a day. WOO-HOO!

I forgot to mention that The Hubs bought a dresser and a TV last week for our bedroom. He also purchased a lounge chair and a new stereo. I swear our bedroom looks more like a hotel room than something of our own. But we just need to add more personality to it, I suppose. Here's a photo of the dresser (which I will be repainting black, ASAP) and the TV.

New Dresser, New TV

It's nice to have all my clothes out of the plastic bins and into a real dresser. And to think it only took a year an a half!

Yesterday we got the new HDTV cable box installed. Our old digital one was fried from those storms we had last week. The HDTV is pretty cool, I guess. I mean, I can't tell the difference, so I have to take The Hubs' word for it that everything looks nicer and sharper. The first thing that Phillip said was "Awesome. People's Court in High Definition!"

Seriously, he's the cutest man to walk the earth.

Now I'm going to get my stuff together for tomorrow and then play with Lola. She's been pushing her toy closer and closer to me all night. I think that's a hint.

Cat Costumes Complete!

I hope that my friend Tammy has received her box containing the cat costumes I made. She has been asked to photograph cats in sexy costumes for an upcoming book that will be published. Here are my contributions:

Lola Models

Cat Bikini
Itty Bitty Kitty Bikini!

French Maid Outfit
Re-tooled French Maid Outfit.

I also made a sheer skirt that turned out cute, but I forgot to take a photo of it. I also included the satin french maid skirt I made, but I couldn't make a top to go with it. I don't know what my mental block was, but everything I tried just didn't work. I'm a bit disappointed about that.

I just wish Lola was a better model. She just laid there when I tried to put stuff on her. And after it was on her for more than 30 seconds she'd start chewing on it. Bad kitty!!

Vancouver Loves Me :)

This photo I took is going to be used in a Vancouver tour guide. Well, and online tour guide, which translates to me not getting paid for the use of it (due to my creative commons license). But that's still pretty cool. It's a photo of all the amazingly different delicious candy/caramel apples in the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. So I'm pretty honored that they like it enough to use it on their website.

Candy Apples!!

It's another muggy day here, which means that I won't be as productive as I'd like to be. Our house contains heat like you wouldn't believe. I got home from the fabric store last night and Lola was sweaty! No kitty should be sweaty. I had to put her in the bedroom where there's A/C for her to cool off. I think it's mostly her fault, though. She was sleeping on top of a pile of fleece! Crazy cat.

I'm going to stay in the bedroom with the a/c on full blast. Maybe I'll finish my book or work on some new jewelry designs. All I know is that it's too hot to sit at my desk. I tried it and didn't like it. Lola even hates the heat, but she can't stand the noise of the a/c even more. Poor kitty.

That's a photo of Lola I took this morning as she sat on my desk, watching me eat my breakfast. She wanted the leftover milk from my cereal. That kitty is pretty demanding.

Wow. Productive!

I was pretty productive today. I scrubbed out the sink in the kitchen. It was disgusting and stained so I used some bleach stuff and scrubbed. It looks better now. I also did some organizing and cleaning. I wanted to watch one of the movies I got from Netflix, but it looks like The Hubs returned it without asking me. Now I'll have to wait til I get a new one.

I also finally finished this bracelet that I've been working on since last summer. It looks awesome. I made it of 8 inch "S" hooks and red and copper colored copper wire. It took me 3 hours to finish because the wrapping of the hooks takes forever. I added a jump ring chain and a frog clasp closure that can be adjusted to any length. It has a real industrial feel to it and it's kind of punk rock. Yeah, that's it.

here, Lola lends a hand, er, neck to model it for me.

I'll probably add this to my Etsy store at some point. I need to make more jewelry designs to try and make a little money while I'm waiting to get a job.

Still Workin' Part 2

What's wrong with me?

I agreed to stay on ANOTHER four weeks (although they assure me it's probably only going to be two) at this temp job. The job that was supposed to have ended four weeks ago. You know, the job that takes me FOR EV ER to get to every day? Yeah, that one.

If it's really two weeks, there's no reason I shouldn't stay. That's $800 in my pocket (give or take) and I really need the money. But goddamn...I can't keep getting up at 5:45 every morning. I mean, I could, but it would have to be for a job that I totally love. Not a lame temp job where I beg people to find me work all day long.

I really couldn't say "no" because there's no guarantee that I'd get another job quickly. And since I was unemployed for so long, I'd really like to NOT revisit that time in my life.

Myspace Is Strange

I hardly ever log on to Myspace. I never really got why it was so popular. I did the whole Friendster thing back in '02 (or whenever it was super popular) and really thought it was bogus. I guess I feel the same about Myspace. Except it's a good way to keep in touch with my brother and my good friend Melissa.

Today I got an unusual amount (4) of friend requests, so I decided to log on and check them out. 3 out of 4 were spam, and one was for a band that a friend is in, so that was cool. But while I was on there, I was amazed to see that the podunk highschool I went to has 15 pages of people listed. I think when I joined there were, um, 10 of us? Something like that. Anyway, I scrolled through the pages and I don't know 85% of the people listed. You'd think I would, since the school I went to was K-12 and I spent 11 years there. But I can't recognize the faces or the names and for a minute or two I felt really old. But then the moment passed and I felt relieved that there are only a handful of people that I know. Of course, the people I'd like to talk to again aren't even on Myspace, and all the people I loathe are. That's the reason why I never log on to Myspace.

And another reason why you'll never catch me at a reunion. The thought of going back there makes me queasy and the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. No. Thanks.

Anyway, on a different note, I completed everything on the list I made yesterday, except for the taxes. Man, I just don't want to face them. I have to pay both MN and MA state taxes this year and it's driving me bazooks. Plus, we file jointly, and we're itemizing this year, so that's another thing that's making me hate tax time. I wish they would just do themselves.

Lola has decided that her new favorite chair is the one I use at my desk. I'd get mad, but how can you yell at a cat as cute as Lola? That's right, you can't. So I just take my laptop elsewhere and let her sleep. Spoiled? Nawwwwwww........

Lola and Phillip

Lola and Phillip

Lola sits next to me pretty much all day and keeps me company. Phillip joined her last night for a little while, which made me smile. My back still isn't better, although I'm thinking that it feels a little better? I can't tell, since I've upped the dose of Vicodin. I felt well enough today to clean up the kitchen. I couldn't do that three days ago, for sure. But then again, the kitchen is the smallest room in the house, so it's not like I had to work very hard or long. Anyway, I just hope I'm able to recover from this fall soon, because I don't want to rely on painkillers anymore to be able to make it through the day.

I'm still unemployed, and kind of depressed about it. Any of you out there have openings in your companies, or do you know of anyone who is hiring? I'm super smart and super talented and the best thing about me (besides the fact that I'm a hard worker) is that I learn new things super fast. That means I'm adaptable. The Temp agencies I'm working with don't seem to be helping me at all. I guess it's good I'm not paying them, right?

If anyone has any ideas for me as far as employment, please comment!

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. I'm going to take a nap.
